KDP Scout — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2, 2026

KDP Scout is now AuthorScout. This Privacy Policy covers the AuthorScout browser extension (formerly known as KDP Scout) and all related services and websites, including kdpscout.com and app.kdpscout.com. References to ‘KDP Scout’ and ‘AuthorScout’ refer to the same product and the same data practices.

KDP Scout (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a Chrome browser extension and web service that helps Amazon KDP publishers analyze book market data. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, how we store it, and how you can control it.

1. Data We Collect

Account Information

When you create a KDP Scout account, we collect:

  • Email address — used for account login, password resets, and service communications
  • Password — securely handled by our authentication provider (Supabase); we never store or see your plaintext password

Usage Data

When you use KDP Scout features, we collect:

  • Feature usage counts — how many BSR marketplace checks, deep dives, and fallback requests you make each month (used to enforce plan limits)
  • Tracked books — the ASINs and titles of books you choose to track (stored so we can show you tracking history)
  • BSR check history — records of cross-marketplace BSR lookups you perform (stored for your reference)

Device and Session Information

  • Device ID — a randomly generated identifier created when you install the extension, stored locally in your browser and on our server. This is NOT a hardware fingerprint. It is used solely to enforce our one-device-per-account policy.
  • IP address — logged temporarily during login for brute-force protection (automatically deleted after 15 minutes)
  • User agent — your browser type, logged at login for account security monitoring

Payment Information

  • Payments are processed by LemonSqueezy (our merchant of record). We never receive, see, or store your credit card number, bank details, or full payment information. LemonSqueezy handles all payment processing and tax compliance. We only receive confirmation of your subscription status (active, cancelled, or expired) and your LemonSqueezy customer ID.

  • Feedback and feature requests: if you send feedback or a feature request through the extension, we receive and store the message you write, along with your account email, so we can respond and improve the product.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your browsing history
  • We do not track which Amazon pages you visit
  • We do not collect any personal information beyond your email address
  • We do not collect health, financial, or location data
  • The AuthorScout extension does not use cookies or tracking pixels. The kdpscout.com website uses only standard WordPress session cookies for basic functionality — no advertising or analytics cookies.
  • We do not run any analytics or advertising SDKs in the extension
  • The extension’s local scraping feature (reading book data from Amazon pages you are actively viewing) runs entirely in your browser — no data from this process is sent to our servers unless you explicitly use a cloud feature (Deep Dive, BSR Marketplace, Book Tracker, or Auto-Fallback)

2. How We Use Your Data

We use collected data only to provide and improve the KDP Scout service:

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to operating the KDP Scout service.

3. How We Store Your Data

  • Account data, usage data, and tracked books are stored in a secure PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase (cloud infrastructure based in the United States). All data is protected by Row Level Security policies, meaning each user can only access their own data.
  • Session tokens and device ID are stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s chrome.storage.local API.
  • Temporary caches (e.g., recent BSR lookups, homepage content) are stored in Redis on our server and automatically expire after a set period (1 to 24 hours depending on the data type).
  • All communication between the extension and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.
  • Passwords are handled entirely by Supabase Auth using industry-standard hashing — we never store or transmit plaintext passwords.
